A New Era of Life
1960's MusicDuring the 1960's there were a lot of new and different music being produced. Two types of music being produced came to be known as "The British Invasion" and "The Motown Sound". The British Invasion came to be during early to mid-1960's when a lot of British rock bands and artists were successful. One of the most influential groups was The Beatles. They broke into the music scene in the U.S. in 1963. The Motown Sound was a different type of music from the British music. The Motown Sound had major significance in terms of the Civil Rights movement and integration. The Motown Records consist mostly of African-American artists; which their success proved in breaking down barriers of segregation.

1960's FestivalsDuring the 60's there were quite a few festivals that took place across the country. In the festivals people could enjoy music, art, and culture. The festivals attracted vast amount of people. They were usually held outside and often went on for several days. One of the most popular festivals that took place was the Woodstock Music & Art Festival. It was a three-day festival in which young people gathered to prove that they could gather peacefully. The Woodstock Fest futured a variety of music and consisted of a lot of drugs, sex, and rock n' roll. It is at this festival where hippies started to merge.

1960's HippiesDuring the 1960's there was a new group of people who formed. They were known as "hippies" and represented that life was meant to be lived happily. They were strong believers in peace and didn't believe in war. They were dissatisfied with established institutions, middle class values, nuclear weapons, the Vietnam War, and much more. Hippies were often young people that sought out to find a new meaning of life. They believed in eco-friendly acts and were often vegetarian. They often participated in alternative arts and listened to folk music. Hippies opposed political and social violence. They wanted to spread peace, love, and personal freedom.
